Sossusvlei & Deadvlei
Build the main excursion around an early departure and the actual access arrangements of your stay. Walking on sand is more demanding than the distance suggests, so choose a pace that feels comfortable.

Go early for the dunes and Deadvlei, then leave the middle of the day open. The Namib is a place to spend time in, with the changing light as much a part of the stay as the morning’s walk.
Where you sleep affects the morning’s drive and access arrangements. We choose the base with those practicalities in mind, then protect enough time for the visit. A second night is especially welcome when the first morning begins before dawn.
After the outing, lunch, shade and a quiet afternoon can be plenty. If photography, walking or a particular lodge interests you, we’ll plan around it. You don’t need to fill every hour to feel that you have spent a day in the desert.

The location of the stay affects your morning journey and the rest of the route. Compare access, atmosphere and road time, not just the room photographs.
